What brought us to needing Unified Communications?

You may be wondering why you need to consider moving toward Unified Communications in your workplace. Productivity is one compelling reason. We have gotten used to having multiple channels for communication and collaboration. However, because the multiple channels have developed and been introduced into business operations gradually over a span of several decades, we may not be fully aware of how unwieldy our communication tools have become. Consider that you can send messages via email, text, chat, and post on social media. You can also communicate in real-time via traditional telco wires, VoIP, as well as audio and video conferencing. It can be difficult to transfer our communication from one medium to another.

Think about the workplace 35 years ago. You had two basic ways to communicate: You met in person in a meeting or you picked up the telephone on your desk. When you left the office to go home, colleagues and clients couldn’t reach you until morning, unless they had your home telephone number. Then in the 1990s, email appeared. Suddenly there was another, entirely new tool for communicating. This tool was completely asynchronous with telephone communications. This one could send you information and if you weren’t available, it would wait for you, just like a letter sent via the post office, only much faster. Then technology began racing along. Email was available not only at your desktop computer but at home via your newly installed home PC and dial up modem. Then texting appeared, conference calls via your PC, email on your own mobile device…and on and on until we are where we are now. But we still have major barriers. The simplest way to define where we have ended up is to think of an eight-lane highway, with all lanes going in one direction. The only problem with this highway is that if you want to change lanes, you have to stop the car and get into another car riding in the lane where you want to be. Unified Communications is a technological concept whose goal is to end this crazy lane change problem.

At BSC Solutions Group, we have a solution that will bring together these various modes of communication.  It’s called Microsoft Teams Phone.  Learn more and request a quote here.
